Why this Symposium?
The Latino Texas Policy Center is bringing together policy experts, researchers, community leaders, institutional partners, and LTPC Policy & Leadership Fellows for a hands-on symposium designed to move Latino Human Capital Investment and Bienestar priorities from discussion to action.Through collaborative working sessions, participants will identify pressing policy and research gaps, develop practical recommendations, and establish the framework for a statewide Policy Researchand Leadership Alliance.
The symposium aims to create lasting partnerships that strengthen evidence-based policymaking and drive meaningful outcomes for Latino communities across Texas with the following objectives:
- Deep Dive into Bienestar Priorities – Identify short- and long-term opportunities to positively impact Latino families and communities.
- Identify Policy Research Priorities – Translate community-identified challenges into priority areas for data-driven policy research and analysis.
- Strengthen Research Collaboration– Connect institutional and community partners interested in collaborative Latino-informed policy research.
- Build the Alliance- Define the Alliance’s purpose, strategic objectives, structure, priority actions, and collaborative policy work.

History
Symposiums are ‘working’ policy discussions focused on equitable human capital improvement issues (education, housing, healthcare, etc.), strategies, and actions that increases Latino influence on policymaking. The Symposiums bring together cross-sector stakeholder voices from across the state to assure that public policies are responsive to Latino community concerns and create opportunities for social and economic mobility.
The Genesis Policy Blueprint from 2017 was the catalyst report regarding the bienestar (well-being) status of Texas Latinos, and a cross-section of policy priorities that continue to challenge changing Texas toward more equitable human capital investment policymaking.
